Microphase Separation in Neutral Homopolymer Blends Induced by Salt-Doping

چکیده

Microphase separation in polymeric systems provides a bottom-up strategy to fabricate nanostructures. Polymers that are reported undergo microphase usually include block copolymers or polyelectrolytes. Neutral homopolymers, which comparatively easy synthesize, thought be incapable of separation. Here, using minimal model accounts for ion solvation, we show is possible neutral homopolymer blends with sufficient dielectric contrast, upon tiny amount salt-doping. The driving force the competition between selective places smaller ions domains higher constant, and propensity local charge neutrality decrease electrostatic energy. compromise an emergent length over occurs selectively solvated. factors affecting such competitions explored, including solvation radii, polymer fraction, point directions observing this behavior experimentally. These findings suggest low-cost facile alternative produce separation, may exploited advanced material design preparation.

Glassy states and microphase separation in cross-linked homopolymer blends

– The physical properties of blends of distinct homopolymers, cross-linked beyond the gelation point, are addressed via a Landau approach involving a pair of coupled order-parameter fields: one describing vulcanisation, the other describing local phase separation. Thermal concentration fluctuations, present at the time of cross-linking, are frozen in by cross-linking, and the structure of the r...

Phase and microphase separation in polymer blends

When two different polymers are mixed, they usually demix because of the slight repulsive interaction that exists between their monomers. This is general and may be related to phase separation in two component mixtures. When the same polymer blend is cross-linked in the one phase region, elastic forces develop and do not let this to occur. There results a microphase separation, with coexistence...

Microphase separation in cross-linked polymer blends. Efficient replica RPA post-processing of simulation data for homopolymer networks.

We investigate the behaviour of randomly cross-linked (co)polymer blends using a combination of replica theory and large-scale molecular dynamics simulations. In particular, we derive the analogue of the random phase approximation for systems with quenched disorder and show how the required correlation functions can be calculated efficiently. By post-processing simulation data for homopolymer n...

Phase Behavior of Ternary Homopolymer/Diblock Blends: Microphase Unbinding in the Symmetric System

We consider the phase behavior of a symmetric AB diblock, blended with corresponding A and B homopolymers, all of equal chain length. Evaluating the phase diagram in mean-field theory at all compositions of the ternary blend, we find no hexagonal and cubic phases. However, up to three distinct lamellar phases can coexist, one being symmetric and the other two being asymmetric. For strong incomp...

Microphase separation induced by interfacial segregation of isotropic, spherical nanoparticles.

In a recent experiment by Chung et al. [Nano Lett. 5, 1878 (2005)] and simulation by Stratford et al. [Science 309, 2198 (2005)] on immiscible blends containing nanoscale particles, it was shown that the phase separation of the two polymers can be prevented as a result of the aggregation of the nanoparticles at the interfaces between the two polymers. Motivated by these studies, we performed la...
